Behind The Scenes: Advancing The Wheel Industry x Ford GT Works

For ADV.1 Wheels, complacency is never an option. Staying on the same level, resting on laurels, not our thing. We are constantly making an effort to reinvent the wheel industry, and now, we have reinvigorated an age-old concept of creating a lightweight carbon fiber wheel. Within these guidelines, standard rules don’t apply. This is where only the most advanced engineering & design in the wheel industry cut it. All of this is needed in order to make a wheel design that not only weighs less, looks good, but is also applicable to various driving conditions.

Today, we have shown the future of the performance wheel industry by revealing the direct result of our partnership with Dymag: the ADV.1 x Dymag CF.2 Carbon Fiber x Forged Aluminum wheel. But, little do our fans and competitors know, the workload that went into creating this wheel is simply massive.

For the release of the ADV.1 x Dymag CF.2 Carbon Fiber x Forged Aluminum wheel, we have chosen the all-new Ford GT. Unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, the 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine powering the Ford GT makes 647 hp (482 kW; 656 PS) and 550 lb·ft (746 N·m) of torque. Thanks to a 7-SPD automatic dual-clutch transmission, the Ford GT will sprint from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 3.9 seconds.

Thanks to a carbon fiber monocoque bolted to the aluminum front and rear subframes covered in carbon fiber body panels, the Ford GT is light, nimble and provides a great feel behind the wheel – a perfect match for our lightweight carbon fiber wheel line.

A few months earlier, our engineering team got to work. With a full body scan, both fitment and size values were matched to both the factory specifications and the engineering team’s experience. In turn, this provided the perfect combination between the OEM and the aftermarket industry. The end result is a wheel fitment that not only provides a performance-optimized wheel setup but also improves the exterior appeal of the vehicle itself.

The resulting ADV7.2 wheel design is the first wheel to come from the strategic alliance between ADV.1 and British performance wheel manufacturer, Dymag Group. The CF.2 construction consists of an aerospace-grade 6061 forged aluminum center utilizing the recently launched lightweight ADV.1 Advanced Series design. It is paired with a patented Dymag BOXSTROM carbon fiber hybrid barrel. The two are joined by lightweight Tikore titanium hardware.

The result is a wheel that is up to 40% lighter than OEM cast aluminum wheels, with a corresponding 40% lower moment of inertia – meaning drivers will experience faster acceleration, sharper braking, as well as vastly superior handling; all without compromising safety.

In the forthcoming days, we will be releasing a bevy of Ford GT images, but meanwhile, take a look at some of the engineering behind the scenes work that went into creating this wheel setup right below.
